Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take do groom my dog?

That depends on the breed of dog, its behaviour and the condition of its coat. As a rough idea, small to medium dogs usually take between 1.5 to 2.5 hours. Larger dogs may take up to 3 hours.

Will my dog be muzzled?

Any dog that shows signs of aggression, will be muzzled for its and our own safety. The dog will never be left unattended whilst wearing the muzzle and, if the dog shows any signs of distress, the muzzle will be immediately removed.

Do I need to make an appointment?
Yes. Grooming is by appointment only and we are usually booked 10 - 14 days in advance. Around the holiday period and Christmas this does increase. We are open Mon - Fri. We close when the last dog has been collected.

Can I leave my dog with you all day?
No, dogs must be collected within 20 minutes of being finished.

My dog's head was still wet when I picked him up. Why?

At Groomingdales we will not do anything that upsets the dogs. Sometimes dogs do not like having their heads blow dried. If this is the case, we get as much excess water off with towels but you may get a damp dog back.

Can I stay with my dog?

As a general rule no. We find that dogs are much better behaved when the owner is not around to distract them. The only exception to this is for very elderly or infirm dogs, when special appointments can be made.

Do you groom large breeds?

Unfortunately no. We do love large dogs but the salon is too small to accommodate them safely.

My dog has to be sedated. Is that ok?

We cannot give the dogs sedatives but if your vet prescribes one you can give it to your dog approximately 30 minutes before his groom. Please make sure you tell us if your dog has been sedated.

Does the groom include nails and anal glands?

Toe nails are included in the price unless the dog is overly aggressive. Anal glands are an optional extra and only done if requested, for an extra fee.

Will my dog be put in a cage?

For safety reasons we cannot have the dogs running loose in the salon so when finished the dogs are placed in a large kennel where we can keep an eye on them.

How much does it cost?

Please see the price list but remember that prices are for well behaved, regularly groomed dogs.

Do you groom cats or other animals?

We only groom dogs and guinea pigs!

My dog hates other dogs what can I do?

Please let us know so we can arrange a quiet time for his appointment, without other dogs in the salon

Can you pluck the hair out of my dog’s ears?

As long as he does not have any ear infections then this is usually done as part of the groom.

Can I bring a shampoo prescribed by my vet?

Yes, you can, as long as there are clear instructions for us to follow.

My dog has fleas…

Dogs found with fleas will automatically be bathed in flea shampoo. ( Please note there is an additional charge for this, as flea shampoo is much more expensive) We will then advise you on how to treat your pet and its environment.

Do you do hand stripping?

 Sorry, no.

When should I get my puppy groomed?
